But you don’t have to endure hours on trains, be crammed in to the back seat of your mate’s Fiesta, or spend hundreds of pounds to get some festival action. Milton Keynes has a decent amount of festivals right on your door step.
Here is our guide to Free Festivals in Milton Keynes for 2012.
1. Folk on the Green, June 10th, Stony Stratford.
After 40 years, they must be doing something right. OK, so its not a balls out festival, but it ticks a lot of boxes. You can watch folk and blues all day, smiling drunk people will be dancing, you can eat all the dirt burgers you want and it offers some of the best people watching available in Milton Keynes. Watch out for the weather at this years “Toke on the Green”, we wouldn’t want to see any wet Rizla.
2. Waterside Festival, June 15th – 17th, Great Linford.
Held over three days in the grounds of Linford Manor, Waterside festival is set in a great venue for some festival fun. Three stages of local and not so local bands with some pretty random dance performances thrown in. There’s loads to do at this one, or do as little as you want. Either way, open a beer, get involved in the activities and have a swim in the filthy canal…. actually, don’t do that last one.
3. Urban Spirit festival, July 14th & 15th, Campbell Park.
Yes, we know its the same weekend as The Swedish House mafia, but you like your music a little less “radio friendly” and FREE, then this is well worth checking out. The festival boasts a list of bands and DJs so long you might miss the whole weekend just reading it. One to watch is the Underpass VS Indiscreet stage, promising some of the freshest new bands from MK including Flip side up. Its not all about the music though, expect to see B-boy dance offs, extreme sports and some half pipes that will make your granny wish she never gave birth to your mother.
4. Summer Fayre Music Festival, August 4th & 5th, Campbell Park.
This ones big. Three Stages, two days, some huge names. This is the second year that the Summer Fayre comes to Milton Keynes, this year see’s live performances from, The Criminal minds, Our man in the bronze age, True Element and Lionsex. In the dance stages (yes, there are TWO of them) Ultra Vagas deliver the goods again and there is even a set from Dreamscape Old Skool legend, DJ DOUGAL. (We can almost smell the sweaty walls of The Sanctuary already)
Also Beatcheck will have a dance tent on Saturday 4th. In true form, we will be smashing out some heavy breaks beats and basslines on a bloody massive Audiowall sound system. (Get in!)
5. Stony Paint Jam, August 18th & 19th, Stony Stratford.
Another two day blitz, using multiple venues both indoors and out, Stony Paint jam is set for a total take over of “The jewel of Milton Keynes”.
Showcasing some of the best live painters, urban artists, bands & DJs from Milton Keynes and around England, the unlikely town of Stony Straftford is where its at. Live music stages are spread across the town and sound systems dotted around the sleepy streets. Yes, we can also confirm that Beatcheck Soundsystem will also be there to deliver some beats and paint covered treats. This is the first year for Stony Paint Jam and its set to be something really unique.
