Imagine this – you’re trying to take a quick nap in a public place, and you suddenly wake up to see you’re being leapfrogged by a bunch of rowdy women with wheels strapped to their legs. You’d probably have the same look on your face as Beatcheck’s Stef when this exact thing happened to him.
But these aren’t just any crazy girls on skates. This is Milton Keynes’ very own Roller Derby team.
What? You don’t know what Roller Derby is? Where have you been?
This slightly mad new sport is the bastard child of rugby, ice hockey and any other team game you can think of – and it has just arrived in Milton Keynes.
We’re not going to pretend that we totally understand it, but it basically involves all-female teams wearing roller skates and smashing each other to oblivion with any part of their bodies apart from their elbows. This video explains it better than we can, but it comes with a health warning: it may well blow your mind.
If you’re reading this thinking you’d like the chance to strap on some wheels and shove some other women around, then you’re in luck. MK Roller Derby is having an open day on Friday 8 July.
